IslamSwipe ("we", "our", "us", "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, how we store it, and your rights under applicable data protection laws including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR).
If you choose to sign in with Apple, we may receive and store the following, depending on what you authorise Apple to share: your email address (which may be a private relay address), your full name (given name and family name), a unique Apple User ID, and a system-generated user ID (UUID). You may also choose to set a display name, username, bio, and profile image. Profile images require photo library access, which you can grant or deny.
If you use the app as a guest, we create an anonymous session through Supabase anonymous authentication. No personal identifying information (name, email, or Apple ID) is collected. A system-generated anonymous user ID is created for the session.
To provide the IslamSwipe experience, we store the following data linked to your account: dhikr session history (count, target, date, duration, and phrase used), dhikr streak data and daily activity for the heatmap, Quran reading progress (verses marked as read and surahs visited), liked and saved posts, comments you post on content, goals you create (type, target, and progress), feed filter and category preferences, notification preferences and schedule settings, your follower and following relationships, your blocked users list, onboarding completion status, and your profile privacy setting (public or private).
If you purchase IslamSwipe Premium, payment is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never collect, store, or have access to your payment details, credit card number, or billing address. We receive your subscription status and expiration date from RevenueCat (our subscription management provider) to determine whether to unlock premium features. This data is linked to your anonymous RevenueCat app user ID, not your personal identity.
If you enable push notifications, we store your anonymous device token provided by Apple Push Notification service (APNs) to deliver notifications to your device. This token cannot be used to identify you personally. If you delete your account, your device token is removed from our servers.
We do not collect your precise or approximate location. We do not access your contacts, calendar, camera, microphone, health data, or biometric data. We do not use any advertising frameworks, tracking SDKs, or analytics platforms. We do not collect your Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA). We do not display advertisements of any kind. We do not sell, rent, share, or trade your data with any third party for advertising, marketing, or any other commercial purpose.
IslamSwipe uses the following third-party services to operate:
Supabase — our backend database and authentication provider. Stores your account data, profile information, and all app usage data listed in Section 1.3. Supabase's privacy policy is available at supabase.com/privacy.
RevenueCat — our subscription management provider. Receives your anonymous app user ID and Apple subscription transaction data to verify your premium subscription status. RevenueCat does not receive your name or email. Their privacy policy is available at revenuecat.com/privacy.
Apple Sign In — authentication is handled by Apple. Apple provides your name and email to us only if you explicitly authorise it. Apple's privacy policy is available at apple.com/privacy.
Apple Push Notification service (APNs) — delivers push notifications to your device using your anonymous device token. Managed by Apple under their privacy policy.
We do not use Firebase, Google Analytics, Amplitude, Mixpanel, Sentry, PostHog, Facebook SDK, or any other analytics, crash reporting, or tracking service.
We use your data solely to provide, maintain, and improve the IslamSwipe app. Specifically, we use your data to: authenticate your identity and maintain your session, save and sync your dhikr progress, Quran reading history, likes, saves, and comments across devices, display your personal stats, streak, heatmap, and Quran Journey in your profile, personalise your content feed based on your filter preferences and selected struggles, manage your premium subscription status, deliver push notifications you have opted into, enable social features (following, commenting, blocking), and display your profile to other users if you have set it to public.
We process your data on the following legal bases: contract performance (to provide the app service you signed up for), legitimate interest (to improve the app and deliver relevant content), and consent (for push notifications and optional profile information, which you can withdraw at any time).
Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account (Profile then Account Settings then Delete Account), all your personal data, profile information, activity history, likes, saves, comments, sessions, goals, preferences, and device tokens are permanently removed from our servers within 30 days. Local data on your device is also cleared immediately upon account deletion.
Guest user data is stored locally on your device and in an anonymous Supabase session. Signing out as a guest clears all local data and ends the anonymous session.
Under UK GDPR and applicable data protection laws, you have the right to: access your personal data (available via Profile then Account Settings then Download My Data, which exports your data as a JSON file), request correction of inaccurate data by contacting us, request deletion of all your data (available in-app or by contacting us), restrict or object to processing of your data, withdraw consent for push notifications at any time through your device settings, and lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you believe your rights have been violated.
IslamSwipe is rated 4+ and contains educational Islamic content suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. Account creation via Apple Sign In requires an Apple ID, which has its own age requirements. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13 without parental consent, we will delete it promptly.
We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for all data in transit, Row Level Security (RLS) on our Supabase database to ensure users can only access their own data, secure authentication through Apple Sign In with JWT tokens, and encrypted storage for sensitive credentials. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your data may be processed on servers located outside the United Kingdom. Supabase and RevenueCat operate servers in various locations. Where data is transferred outside the UK, appropriate safeguards are in place in accordance with UK GDPR requirements.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
